The Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist |
|
For a long time now this parish has distributed Holy Communion at all Masses under both consecrated species i.e. bread and wine. There are currently many parishioners who have been commissioned as Special Ministers of the Eucharist, and one of their responsibilities is to assist the priest in the distribution of Holy Communion.
We are careful to emphasise that this is but one of their responsibilities, but the only one with which perhaps parishioners are familiar. In fact, in addition to their duties at Mass, Eucharistic Ministers of this parish also visit the sick and take communion to them on a regular basis both on Sundays and during the week.
If at any time you are sick, or if you know someone, who is sick and would like to receive Holy Communion, please telephone the Parish Office 9398 2331 and arrangements will be made to bring Holy Communion to you.
Other duties include visits to the Hostels and Nursing Homes in the parish and the arrangement of the Sacraments of reconciliation and Holy Communion, at various times also Eucharistic Celebration Services.
Special Ministers are commissioned for a two-year period after which the ministry is reviewed. They are rostered for the different Masses. The parish priest carries out selection of Eucharistic Ministers on invitation. Re-commissioning takes place on the feast of the Body and Blood of Christ, having completed the course by Archdiocesan Liturgical Commission.
